“Sierra Arts Foundation announced four 2020 Artist Grant recipients in February. They are novelist/poet June Sylvester Saraceno, folk/Americana musician Nick Aliberti, and conceptual photographer Megan Berner and collage artist Mary Kenny. Each artist will receive $1,000.
Funds are awarded based on merit and are not restricted to any particular type of expenditure. But at least one artist, Megan Berner, plans to use the award money to fund a specific project. “I’m going to be publishing a book of my Nevada sunrises that I took from my window at the Artists Lofts,” Berner said. Beginning in 2012, she shot approximately 600 photos of sunrises from her fifth-floor loft in downtown Reno and posted them on Instagram, where they were a hit.

You may have noticed that I haven’t been posting sunrises lately… I moved from my apartment in October and so, I no longer have the same view. I still see the sunrise most days and think about how great it would have been to photograph and share. The project started with an image taken in March of 2012. The series has naturally come to an end with the last image made in September of 2019. I miss sharing these images here but am now working on a book to compile them all. I received a grant from @nvartscouncil and @iamsierraarts to create the book. Stay tuned for more information! #goodmorningnv
