“When Ahren Hertel first started painting seriously, he had two main influences, comics like Calvin and Hobbes and Renaissance painting. He took it from there. Lately, he’s been making portraits of friends and fellow artists, and masterfully abstract Nevada landscapes. Ahren dropped by the KWNK studio in Reno to talk about his trajectory as an artist and what teaching painting at UNR is like.
