Piper J Gallery’s new location soft-opens this weekend

Piper J Gallery is hosting a soft opening this weekend, April 15 and 16, at its new Truckee location, 10250 Donner Pass Rd., with a solo exhibition of Susan Watson’s non-objective acrylic paintings. The new location’s spring hours are Wed-Sun 11am-5 pm.

Dry Heat arts journal call for arts writers open

The Barrick Museum at UNLV has released a call for arts writers for Dry Heat, the Southern Nevada arts journal that was launched in 2022. The journal is seeking proposals for essays on public art. The guest creative editor is Jennifer Kleven. Inquiries are due May 15, and final essays are due in August. Submission details here.

Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant open

The Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant, which supports emerging and established writers who write about contemporary visual art, opened on April 12. Awards range from $15,000 to $50,000 in three categories—articles, books, and short-form writing. Applications are due May 17. Guidelines and application here.

Pres. Biden appoints art committee members

According to a White House press release, on April 13 President Biden appointed several high high-profile artists and arts policy leaders to the newly re-established President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.

The committee was established in 1982 by President Reagan to advise organizations such as the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Institute of Museum and Library Services. It was rendered ineffective in 2017 when all members resigned in protest of President Trump’s response to the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia and reestablished in 2022 via an executive order from President Biden.
