A new sculpture at Goldwell Open Air Museum

Neuroscientist-turned-artist Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya installed a new sculpture on the grounds of the Goldwell Open Air Museum in Rhyolite, just outside of Death Valley National Park, in February.  According to an article in the Pahrump Valley Times, “Her new piece at Goldwell consists of nine 10×10-foot steel frames in a sort of Jacob’s ladder arrangement, painted pale blue on the outside and yellow on the inside.” You can learn more about Phingbodhipakkiya in Double Scoop’s article on her 2019 exhibition at UNLV’s Barrick Museum.

Clark County seeks input on a new memorial

The Clark County Commission’s new 1 October Memorial Advisory Committee is soliciting public input for a permanent memorial to remember those who perished in the shooting on Oct. 1,  2017 and to celebrate the Las Vegas community’s resilience. The survey seeks to answer questions such as: “Should the memorial be a park, a monument, a sculpture, or something else?” The survey is available here in English and Spanish through March 14th, along with meeting agendas and an email signup form.

Nevada Museum of Art’s Chez Louie restaurant reopens

The Nevada Museum of Art’s restaurant, Chez Louie reopened yesterday after having been closed for a year due to the pandemic. Burning Man co-founder Michael Mikel was the first customer. He lent us this photo.

Carson City and Tonopah currently have calls out for artists to create indoor and outdoor murals. Additional calls for artists include Reno and Carson Valley’s upcoming open studio tours; artist residencies at Core Contemporary, Great Basin National Park, and the Black Rock Desert; group shows in Reno and Sparks; and the City of Reno’s City Artists position.
