AREA15 receives business + building awards

This month, AREA15 received two awards—the Newbie award from the inaugural Nevada Business Awards and the Building and Environment award, which is one of the Mayor’s Urban Design Awards presented by City of Las Vegas.

The Nevada Business Awards recognize Nevada businesses. The Mayor’s Urban Design Awards recognize quality urban design principles that foster sustainability and livability.

NEA awards funds to Nevada orgs + cities

The National Endowment for the art announced in a May 18 press release that six Nevada organizations were among a group from every state. All in all, the NEA awarded $91 million in this round of grants. The Nevada awardees are the City of Henderson ($20,000), A Source of Joy Theatricals, Las Vegas ($20,000), Lied Discovery Children’s Museum, Las Vegas ($10,000) Opera Las Vegas ($20,000), Sin City Opera, Las Vegas ($10,000), and the Nevada Arts Council, Carson City ($828,600).

The previous round of Nevada NEA grantees, announced in January, includes the City of Las Vegas, $10,000; the Neon Museum, Las Vegas, $10,000; UNLV, $10,000; Artown, Reno, $25,000; and the City of Reno, $20,000. (More details here.)

Folklife grants open June 1

The Nevada Arts Council’s next Folklife Community Grant cycle opens June 1. Up to $3,000 is available to small community organizations presenting programs with folk artists and culture bearers. Eligible projects include festivals, cultural events, concerts, and gatherings. Details here.
