Burning Man announces 2022 honorarium artists

Burning Man announced the 2022 honorarium projects today — a total of 88 art pieces for this year’s playa event, including the 55 that were awarded funding for the canceled 2020 event.

The awardees include 15 teams from outside of the U.S. They’re from Canada, Russia, Austria, Brazil, Germany, Great Britain, India, Indonesia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Philippines, South Africa, and Turkey.

The Nevada and Tahoe honorarium artists are Tom Boughner and the Desert Propaganda Collective, Reno; EJesse Lightcap and The Emergence Project, Truckee, CA; Kelly Smith Cassidy, South Lake Tahoe, CA; Shelby Dukeminier, Las Vegas; Matt Parkhurst, Truckee, CA; Barry Crawford, Elko; Jessica Levine, South Lake Tahoe, CA; and Jerry Snyder, Reno.

Area 15 announces Florida expansion

Area15, the immersive art and entertainment facility that houses Meow Wolf Las Vegas, announced plans for a second location in Orlando, Florida, slated to open in 2024. According to a March 10 press release, “AREA15 Orlando will occupy an approximately 300,000-square-foot structure situated on 17 acres” and offer concerts, art exhibitions, and “boundary-pushing production shows.”

Laika Press to re-open next week

After a November move and a few renovations, Laika Press—Reno’s community printmaking studio—will begin being open by appointment on March 15 at its new location, 136 Vesta St. You can book an appointment here. Laika’s workshops are scheduled to resume in April.
