Fawn Douglas honored by City of Las Vegas

On Jan. 6 in Las Vegas, Ward 3 Councilwoman Olivia Diaz presented artist and activist Fawn Douglas as the City’s January Citizen of the Month. Douglas is co-founder of Nuwu Art + Activism Studios, curator of the recent Ah’-Wah-Nee exhibition at UNLV, an MFA candidate at UNLV, a member of the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe, and former tribal councilwoman.

National opportunities for artists

Nevada Humanities awards $600K in pandemic relief grants

Nevada Humanities announced on Jan. 6 that it awarded 60 grants totaling $614,357.92 to 44 nonprofit organizations across Nevada, using funds from the federal American Rescue Plan Relief Act. The awardees include several arts organizations, among them the The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, Barrick Museum of Art, Capital City Arts Initiative, Sierra Arts Foundation, the Nevada Museum of Art, the Holland Project, and St. Mary’s Art Center. City of Reno grants $193K to local arts + culture groups

On Dec. 8, the City of Reno approved $193,636 in Arts + Culture Grants to local arts organizations to provide art programs, events and services in Reno in 2022. Sixteen grants for events, totaling $74,027, were awarded. These grants came from the general fund and room tax. Twenty-six grants were awarded for other projects, totaling $119,609. These grants came from the room tax fund.
