The NMA has a new curator

The Nevada Museum of Art has hired a new Senior Curator of Contemporary Art, Apsara DiQuinzio. She has worked at SF MOMA, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and, most recently, the Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive, where she was Senior Curator.
DiQuinzio plans to take her new post on Nov. 1 You can get a glimpse of her work before then in Berkeley. Her exhibition, New Time: Art & Feminisms in the Twenty-First Century opens tomorrow at BAMPFA. Admission is free tomorrow, Aug. 28, and DiQuinzio will give a talk on Sunday afternoon.

Fly Ranch book to be released in October

Fly Ranch Project’s Matthew Sundquist announced on Facebook yesterday that the Land Art Generator Initiative’s new book, Land Art of the 21st Century, will be released in October. “There are beautiful spreads of seventy of the projects from our design challenge and many pictures and maps,” Sundquist posted. Contributors include the Nevada Museum of Art’s William Fox, Burning Man co-founder Harley K. Dubois, and activist/filmmaker Autumn Harry. The book is available here for pre-order.

Art Prof. Rachel Stiff named WNC’s faculty of the year

Art Professor Rachel Stiff was among three Western Nevada College employees named Faculty of the Year. She teaches painting, drawing and art history and is the coordinator for the  Bristlecone Building galleries. She’s also an accomplished painter. You can see her artwork here.
