Nevada Arts Council appoints new board members

This week, the Nevada Arts Council announced the appointments of three new members to its nine-memner board: Patrick Duffy, resident and CEO of Nevada School of the Arts; Melissa Melero-Moose, artist and co-founder of the Great Basin Native Artists, and Claire Muñoz, senior director of education at the Nevada Museum of Art. Museum of Selfies to open in Las Vegas June 1
The LINQ Promenade on the Las Vegas Strip announced on May 17 that it will add the Museum of Selfies to its dining, retail, and entertainment facilities on June 1. The press release reads, “A family-friendly attraction, Museum of Selfies will feature iconic photo opportunities made famous by celebrity visitors at its Hollywood location, such as the mind-blowing Upside-Down room, the joyful Emoji Pool, the optical illusioned-filled Bathroom Selfie and many more. Tickets start at $29 for adults, $22 for kids. More info here.
National grant deadlines coming up
The National Endowment for the Arts sent a reminder to local arts agencies that they can apply through July 8 to the annual Grants for Arts Projects/Local Arts Agencies grant program and specific relief programs. You can find complete eligibility requirements and program guidelines here. The NEA invites potential applicants to reach out to locals@arts.gov with any questions.
Lance Smith named director of Rogers Art Loft
The Rogers Art Loft in Las Vegas named Lance Smith its new director. Lance is an artist who has been with the RAL for three years as program manager. You can learn more about Lance here and more about the RAL here.
Reno public art in the NY Times
Reno was mentioned in a May 20 New York Times article, “Taking Art to the Streets, Just Look Down,” as one of 16 cities installing a ground mural, as part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Asphalt Art Initiative. The project is funded by a $25,000 Bloomberg award and a $50,000 Nevada Main Street grant. It’s slated to be installed on the Re-TRAC lids between the Eldorado casino and Whitney Peak Hotel on June 7-11 by Philadelphia artist Brad Carney and 300 local volunteers. More info here.
