Las Vegas mourns artist Rita Deanin Abbey
This announcement arrived Thursday from UNLV: “The Art Department is saddened to share the news of the passing of Rita Deanin Abbey, Professor Emerita, on March 20, 2021, at the age of 90. Rita was one of the first members of the nascent Department of Art, and she taught here for 22 years starting in 1967. …The soon-to-open Desert Space Museum will be the home and public venue dedicated to her large-scale sculptures and her life’s artwork.”
UNR grad students recognized
The UNR Graduate Student Association announced its 2021 Spring Awards winners, including two art students. Sogand Tabatabaei won the Outstanding Artist Award. LV Cultural Affairs Office seeks volunteers
If you’re interested in the Las Vegas arts scene but you’re not sure how to get involved, the Office of Cultural Affairs invites you to become a volunteer. Tahoe summer art workshops at SNU
Registration is open for Sierra Nevada University’s 37th Annual Summer Visiting Artist Workshops in Incline Village, where visiting masters teach students from near and far. Most of the workshops are one-week intensives in subjects like ceramics, wood-block printmaking, animation, papermaking, and pewter casting. Sessions run from June 14-July 30. Info here.
