In the series Self Without Interpretation at the Lilley Museum of Art, Linda Alterwitz uses the brainwaves of her community to illustrate and inform us about love and loss. The Las Vegas-based artist used a multi-electrode, medical-grade EEG device to collect brain activity data from participants. In this multi-sensory project, Alterwitz interviewed participants about love and loss in their lives and asked each person to think deeply about the answers. The resulting data informs the compelling photographic series seen throughout the museum space.
