Artist Statement:

Practicing mindfulness, a spiritual and intellectual practice that heightens my awareness of myself and my surroundings, I express my interpretation of this awareness in my imagery. I often focus on the experiences and emotions that connect me to a place. Although my source imagery often varies in content from urban and rural imagery to abstractions, all works are linked though my personal awareness within the moment. Until a few years ago, I explored these principles with my camera. More recently I have set about making abstractions of my surroundings in multiple & mixed mediums.

Bio:

Jennifer received her MFA from Washington State University and her BFA from the Academy of Art University. Her work has been included in numerous group and solo exhibitions across North America and featured in several periodicals. She is a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts & Nevada Art Councils Grant in 2022. Jennifer has taught Art & Photography at community colleges across the western united states for over 10 years including at College of Southern Nevada and currently is the full-time art faculty at Treasure Valley Community College.

Jennifer’s art-making process is informed by her teachings of the foundation of art, and her pieces have strong structural ties in the compositional principles she teaches. Currently she is using a transfer printing process to put her photography to aluminum plates. The images obtain a special depth and nuance with this process that enhances the original composition, one that can only truly be appreciated in person.

On exhibit at Clark County Library from January 5, 2023 through March 19, 2023
