African American Heritage 2023: Our Mothers Tongues
Chamber Gallery
2nd Floor | Las Vegas City Hall
Curated by Lance Smith
Our Mothers Tongues, curated by Lance LaMar Smith is an exhibition that highlights the rich and diverse voices of Black folx. Through this exhibition, we witness the power of connection and disconnection as these voices express their unique experiences, histories, and emotions.
Our Mothers Tongues is an exhibition confronting the complexities of identity and community, intimately exploring how language binds and separates us.
The works of Gail Brito-Watson, Shereene Fogenay, Q’Shaundra James, Kaitlyn B. Jones, Ayanah Moore, and Joseph Watson are expressions of cultural identity, passed down from one generation to the next, and how this linguistic inheritance shapes our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
