Last week, the Nevada Press Association (a.k.a. the Nevada Press Foundation) released the winners of the annual Awards of Excellence competition (a.k.a. the Better Newspapers Competition). Three of the awards went to Double Scoop writers.
Delany Uronen won First Place in the Profile category for her March profile on Las Vegas artist Jeannie Hua, “Meet the attorney-turned-artist who subverts xenophobic narratives.”
Delaney is a native of Northern California who now lives in Reno. She has been writing elegant, insightful, profiles and exhibition write-ups for Double Scoop since 2019. She graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a degree in English in 2021.
Brent Holmes—Las Vegas artist, event organizer, and Double Scoop’s chief Southern Nevada critic since 2020—earned a third place award in the News Obituary category for their January remembrance of Las Vegas arts champion Cindy Funkhouser, “A force for good” and a third-place award for Arts and Culture Commentary.
