NMA announces 2023 STEAM Conference

The Nevada Museum of Art announced today that registration is open for its 2023 STEAM Conference, March 1-4. This year’s theme is “Environments of Inspiration.” The conference aims to teach strategies to incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math into classrooms to foster creativity. The conference is virtual, and registration is free for K-12 educators. Details and registration link here.

Justin Favela’s in a national show in San Diego

What’s the term for a Latergram that’s on WordPress, not Instagram? This is that. This show began in October, and we’re just reporting it now. Hope you’ll pardon the delay: Las Vegas artist Justin Favela’s work is featured in the exhibition Piñatas: The High Art of Celebration at The Mingei International Museum in San Diego. The show includes more than 80 works made by Latinx artists in the U.S. It runs through April 30.

Las Vegas seeking public art evaluators

The City of Las Vegas Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs is seeking volunteer evaluators for public art projects. From the City’s webpage: “Our goal is to assemble an on-going list of evaluators, comprised of a diverse group of stakeholders who are committed to furthering the city’s core purpose of ‘Building Community to Make Life Better’ through the city’s public art programs.” The application form is here.

Reno seeking Public Art Committee members

The City of Reno is seeking new volunteer members for its Public Art Committee, which acts as an advisory panel to the Reno Arts & Culture Commission on matters relating to public art projects. Duties include reviewing artist submissions and identifying potential new public art projects. The committee meets monthly for approximately two hours, and the position requires an additional two to six hours per month. The application is here. UNR hiring Art History Prof.

The University of Nevada, Reno is hiring an Assistant Professor of Art History. “Desired areas of expertise include: Latinx Studies, Indigenous Studies, Native American art, African American art, Visual Culture Studies, Gender and Sexuality, and/or Environmental Studies.” Details here.
